I am a psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of children, adolescents, and adults. Through a variety of modalities, I focus extensively on the treatment of neuro-developmental disorders.
In addition to providing therapeutic services through my private practice, I am also the co-developer/owner of the Family Resource and Development Center, LLC (FRDC). FRDC is a one of a kind outpatient therapy practice located in Farmington, CT. We specialize in the treatment of children, adolescents, young adults, and families through a wide range of services and treatment approaches. To learn more about FRDC please visit our website at www.frdcllc.com.
I obtained my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford and I became a licensed clinician (LPC) in 1998. Since that time, I have worked in multiple treatment settings and I have specifically specialized in the treatment of children, adolescents, and young adults.
I was the clinical director of Child Services at Saint Francis Care Behavioral Health in the late 1990’s, which consisted of overseeing the inpatient and partial hospital facilities in Portland, CT. Since leaving Saint Francis, I have focused on the development of a child and adolescent outpatient private practice that provides a variety of different services. Specifically, I treat children and adolescents with various issues ranging from depression, anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder(ADHD), and other various behavioral difficulties.
Over the past fifteen years, I have developed an extensive interest in, and emphasis on treating ADHD, high functioning autism, and other aspects of neurodiversity that impact, social, emotional and/or behavioral functioning. My emphasis in treatment is on supporting the child or adolescent by educating them on their issues, exploring their difficulties in a constructive manner, and developing strategies to help them improve emotionally, cognitively and behaviorally.
I share the philosophy with many other psychotherapists that these children and adolescents want to be successful, despite their various challenges. It is this belief that drives my interventions, which are highly empathic, yet goal directed. Typically, this process begins with a thorough clinical assessment that helps create the future treatment plans. While this is occurring, I also seek input from the child or adolesent as well as the family in order to develop the most appropriate treatment goals and strategies. It is my ultimate intent to create a setting that provides children, adolescents, and family members the opportunity to gain further insight into their issues and grow in a positive manner.
In addition to working with children and adolescents, a significant portion of my practice is dedicated to the treatment of adults. I have a great deal of experience in providing cognitive behavioral therapy which incorporates various evidence-based interventions. I have found a great deal of success in alleviating significant symptoms associated with trauma, and anxiety disorders such as panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and specific phobias.
SERVICES:
Individual and Family Psychotherapy: Individual and family treatment is provided for children, adolescents, and adults struggling with specific issues.
Assessment for ADHD/Neuropsychological Issues: In an effort to gain a better understanding of issues such as ADHD and executive functioning, an assessment can be provided for children and adolescents (ages 7 and up). An initial evaluation takes place with the child/family members to gather history and current symptoms. This is followed by a brief computer assessment regarding memory, simple and complex attention, general executive functioning skills/deficits, and visual-motor processing. Upon completion, a brief summary will be provided in writing to the family.
Group Psychotherapy: Group therapy is provided in several specific groups for children ranging in age from 8 to 24. For specific information about what groups are currently being facilitated, please contact me by phone or email.
Case Management Services: When providing care to children and adolescents, there are often times when communication with outside providers is helpful/necessary in coordinating care in order to make the treatment more effective. This particular communication may involve academic planning, support with additional providers, etc.
